CIRCULARGUARD / A CLEAR NEXT STEP

IT asset disposition

An equipment refresh is more than a removal job. Build a retirement plan that accounts for ownership, data, usable value, and the records your IT and finance teams need.

Start with an asset-level decision

Identify the assets being retired, their owners, asset tags, and any lease or retention restrictions. Decide which units may be evaluated for redeployment or reuse, which require destruction, and which are intended for recycling. Keep those decisions attached to the inventory.

Resolve data and release permissions

Record storage media, encryption or access constraints, and the person authorized to approve disposition. Reuse should only proceed after the agreed data treatment and release checks. Locked, damaged, or unidentifiable assets need an exception path rather than an assumed resale outcome.

Reconcile the final inventory

Match received assets to the original list and explain missing, additional, or unreadable identifiers. Agree how any recovery value, charges, or credits will be calculated in the project proposal. Closeout can link each asset to its treatment result and the supporting documentation.

What to share for a project review

  • Asset list with identifiers and condition
  • Ownership or lease restrictions
  • Data handling and release approvals
  • Valuation and reporting expectations

Frequently asked questions

Will retired equipment have resale value?

Value depends on age, condition, completeness, locks, demand, and processing costs. Any commercial terms must be agreed after review; a collection request is not a resale quote.

Can we keep some equipment for internal reuse?

Yes, include that preference in the planning request so the inventory distinguishes assets to retain from assets approved for external disposition.
